Happy Clothes with a Purpose: Cecilia Blixt’s Colorful Take on Sustainable Fashion
From teenage thrift finds to a bold design brand — how Cecilia Blixt turns upcycled materials into wearable joy.
Cecilia Blixt’s journey into the world of secondhand fashion began early. As a child, it was natural for her to inherit and reuse clothes, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that her passion truly took off.
“It all changed when UFF opened their stores in Stockholm,” Cecilia shares. “I was a teenager and wanted clothes that stood out — not the same things everyone else was wearing.”
When she couldn’t find the clothes she envisioned, she started making them herself. The reactions from people around her didn’t take long to appear. “I often got compliments and questions about my clothes when I was out and about, and many told me I should study to become a designer. That’s how it all started.”
Since then, Cecilia has combined creativity and sustainability in everything she does. Her vision for the brand Cecilia Blixt Design is crystal clear:
“I want to inspire people and help them find joy in clothing. I truly believe we can feel better and boost our mood when we wear pieces that make us happy.”
But for her, it’s about more than just fashion — it’s a way to make a difference. “I also want to make people aware of the harmful effects of fast fashion — especially ultra fast fashion. It’s not just about consumption; it’s about human rights, the environment, equality, poverty, and injustice.”
When asked if she has a favorite piece or a special memory from her journey, her response is filled with warmth.
“I love most of my designs, because I create clothes that I personally want to wear and that I feel are missing from the market. What makes me extra happy is that so many people are surprised and delighted when they realize most of my pieces are made from upcycled materials.”
One thing that makes her particularly proud is how her message continues to live through her creations. “My hashtag is #happyclothes, and the funny thing is that people — even without seeing it — often describe my clothes exactly like that: happy clothes. It makes both me and my customers happy, and that’s exactly the feeling I want to share.”
Cecilia Blixt’s designs are more than just clothing — they’re color, joy, sustainability, and a reminder that fashion can make a difference.
